GHAZIABAD: A man looted a jewelry store in Sector 23 of Sanjay Nagar on Wednesday morning. This is the third robbery targeting a jewelry store in the city in seven days.
Police said at around 11 a.m. the accused entered Nakshatra Jewelers posing as a customer and said he wanted to buy gold chains and earrings. “I asked one of my colleagues to take care of the client. The accused first asked the staff member to show his relative some earrings. He selected a pair of earrings after clicking on a photo and sent it to someone,” said store owner Gaurav. Kapil.
“Later, my employee showed him gold chains and after selecting three, he asked for another heavy gold chain. As soon as the staff member turned to an almirah, the accused fled with the three gold chains worth Rs 1 lakh,” Kapil added. According to the owner, before the robbery, the man walked out of the store three times under the guise of talking to someone on the phone. When he couldn’t find anyone outside the shop, he ran away with the ornaments. My staff had tried to chase him away but we couldn’t,” he said.
The theft was recorded on camera. “We have also shared the photo of the accused with nearby police stations and one team is verifying the other CCTV cameras installed nearby to find him,” said SP (city) 1 Nipurn Agarwal. The man was convicted under IPC section 380 (theft).
This is the third robbery at a jewelry store in a week. On July 22, two youths attempted to loot a jewelry store in Vasundhara using toy guns. On July 20, a man and his daughter attempted to steal a chain after throwing chilli powder at the shopkeeper and an employee.
