When a young couple approached Brisbane, Australia-based integration company eXperience ONE to design and install smart home technologies in their new home, system designer Mat Daley knew they would have to balance providing sophisticated solutions that also practically disappear in the ultra-modern of the house. aesthetic.
“These clients have created a bold, modern styled home that is uniquely focused on art and outdoor entertaining,” says Daley.
“Our role was to make the house easier to use while also providing special features such as keyless entry for the babysitter with push alerts that notify owners of her arrival. As they had clearly spent a lot of time In designing the house itself, we chose products that could blend into the environment and reduce the visibility of the technology as a whole.”
To achieve the desired look and feel, Daley and eXperience ONE designed the home systems with recessed Control4 touchscreens, custom painted Triad speakers, custom engraved knobs for the Control4 dimmers and keypads., and wireless control of televisions, speakers, motorized blinds, air conditioning systems and security.
The design also consolidated the home’s electronics footprint into a single room by installing most of the required hardware and AV devices in an equipment rack.
“Clients had used some individual smart products in their previous residence, and they wanted to avoid having speakers on tables or having to use a bunch of different apps just to run the living room,” Daley adds.
“We showed them how professional-grade smart home technology can really enhance the ambience of a space by providing precise control of lighting, shades and climate control systems to create the experience they want. While their previous experience had shown that sometimes gadgets can complicate a room, our solutions built with Snap One products are designed to simplify everything.
Smart home conveniences appeal to eXperience ONE customers
Like many first-time smart home users, the couple weren’t 100% sure what to expect. In particular, the woman was concerned about boxy equipment ending up in visible spaces and was not fully aware of the usefulness of a full-fledged smart home solution for her day-to-day activities and home enjoyment.
After months of living in the completed home, they said they would never go back to a non-smart home.
“The client actually said to me, ‘If you have any clients who are hesitant about adding tech to their homes, tell them to call me and I’ll tell them how happy I am and how home is better with smart technology,” says Daley.
“They both agreed that they had no intention of ever living in a ‘dumb’ house again. I couldn’t ask for a better customer testimonial!”
As a busy couple working full time and raising a family, their list of must-have features also included robust security, surveillance, door locks and exterior lighting.
Using Control4, eXperience ONE linked all of these systems together and created scenes such as “Welcome Home” lighting which illuminates the carport when they open the driveway door and then illuminates a path from the carport to other areas. .
Whenever they’re away from home, owners can easily check the status of any system, including viewing live surveillance camera feeds and setting automatic alerts when their baby- sitter enters or leaves the house using his specific entry code.
Home theater, personalized touches added to project success
For day-to-day home control, they mainly use Neeo remote controls for Control4, which offer a touchscreen and full access to all connected systems.
“Special features such as the outdoor TV and the ability to activate the pool’s waterfall feature from the Control4 mobile app show homeowners and their guests that there are countless possibilities for professional builders to add fun and useful technologies to their living spaces,” says Daley. “It’s a very different experience living in a house where you can turn off all the lights at night with a tap of your smartphone and arm your security system from your bed.”
When it’s time to film, the home’s media room delivers a theater-level experience by pairing a Triad Bronze Series 5.1.2 surround sound system with a 4K projector and display. Triad speakers are custom painted to match the walls and blend seamlessly into the room. (In other areas, motion sensors are painted the same to match various surfaces.)
Because technology is constantly changing, the standard eXperience ONE wiring package for new construction projects includes additional in-wall wiring that makes future additions much simpler and more affordable to implement.
“Once a project is complete, we become a technology consultant to help ensure that each client derives maximum satisfaction and utility from their systems,” says Daley.
“We’re offering a full year of free system customization as they settle into the new home and become familiar with the system’s capabilities. We also handle manufacturer’s warranty claims for the customer if they arise and we offer a lifetime warranty on our workmanship, and we provide product selection assistance when they want to add or upgrade items in their home. .
