Samsung Galaxy S10 + beats the competition in DXOMark’s selfie camera test

DXOMark has released its first look at the selfie camera on the Samsung Galaxy S10 +, and reports that despite being integrated into the Infinity-O display, the front camera is still the best you can get on a smartphone.

Samsung uses several tricks to achieve this. They use a 10Mp main sensor paired with a lens offering a 25mm equivalent focal length and f / 1.9 aperture, which is cropped by default to 6.5Mp to create a 32mm equivalent field of view over a full-frame sensor.

It also uses an 8 MP secondary depth sensor for a simulated bokeh effect.

DXOMark reports that skin tones appear natural and pleasing, with precise white balance, wide dynamic range, and pleasing overall color rendering, although some clipping may occur on faces or in the background in contrasting scenes. raised.

They also note that the portrait mode is very precise and offers a realistic bokeh mode, while the front camera flash modes performed very well, providing good target exposure and well-controlled noise levels.

Videos taken by the selfie camera also performed very well, with effective video stabilization, decent texture / noise balance, good detail rendering in bright light and indoor lighting, and well-controlled noise levels.

They conclude:

The Galaxy S10 + is our latest top-of-the-line device for front camera performance and is an easy recommendation for selfie photographers and videographers. The Samsung’s front camera performs well across the board and doesn’t show any real weakness compared to the direct competition. In stills mode, some highlight clipping may occur in high contrast scenes and colors may look a bit dull in low light, but otherwise the S10 + does very well in almost any shooting situation. It’s even harder to find any noteworthy flaws in Samsung’s video performance, making the Samsung Galaxy S10 + a deserving new favorite in the DxOMark Selfie rankings.
