Who Killed Sanford Store Owner Joshua Hur?

On December 23, 2015, Joshua Hur was robbed, shot and killed. The Sanford store owner was on his way to church a few hours before Christmas Eve. He left behind two children and a lasting mark on his community.

“We received a phone call around 7:11 p.m., gunshots were heard at Kim’s food store in Sanford,” said Sanford Police Department Investigator Sharon Nettles.

Police believe there were multiple victims involved, seeking to steal the money Hur had earned at the store that day.

“The motive for this, based on all the evidence and the interviews and the whole case, we believe is theft,” Nettles said. “We know those involved knew his routine and knew he would be leaving at that time.”

Hur was known as Mr. Kim in the community. He was active in his local congregation in Orlando. In fact, that’s where he was going the night of his murder, to an evening service at Green Hill Church.

“My father was a good man, he didn’t deserve what happened to him,” his son Caleb said at a vigil in 2016. The 63-year-old moved here from Korea in 1993 and at the start 2000s bought the convenience store. “Kim’s grocery store.”

“We don’t know why this would have happened,” family friend Eunice Park said in 2015. “He was a loving beacon to our church and even in the community he was such a big pillar of support in the community. .”

Years later, the pain is still too much for the family, even too difficult to talk about.

“We all know he’s in a better place now. Watching us in our time of mourning / Every time I saw him I felt like he was holding a grandchild in his arms,” said Park said at the time.

Sanford police are still trying to solve the murder mystery before another season.

“We need more leads, we need the community to come forward, at that time it was a bit evening, but it wasn’t too late. So we’re sure there was can -be more witnesses or someone who heard or saw something,” Nettles said.

The surveillance camera outside the store was not working. There was surveillance inside the store, but the police spoke to the last people inside the store. The killer is still out there.
